What is PAL?
The Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) is a registered non-profit 501c3 organization that is dedicated to providing affordable after school, summer and athletic opportunities to more than 500 Tampa Bay youth. P.A.L. has partnered with the Tampa Police Department to provide a safe, healthy environment for our community’s children and teens. P.A.L.’s partnership with the police department provides mentorship as well as safety and crime prevention programs. In addition, P.A.L. has partnered with many other community organizations to provide athletic, educational and recreational development.
eLogic Learning proudly sponsored 42 kids on a canoe adventure down the Hillsborough River in Tampa July 2, 2010. Four hours of paddling five miles down the spring fed river through Oak Hammocks and Cypress knees, five alligators and three turtles later, the kids were excited, tired, and more connected to each other and their environment.
PAL Tampa offers after school and summer programs to inner city youth and relies heavily on charitable contributions to fund educational and life enriching experiences for kids aged six to 15, whom may otherwise not have these experiences. This was the first time PAL organized a canoe trip, and the first time many of the kids ever glided down the river that is a lifeline and geographical mainstay in almost every neighborhood in Tampa.
“I didn’t think we would ever finish,” an 11-year-old girl said still breathing heavy with a paddle in one hand and her other arm around her friend. “But we took turns paddling and worked together.”
Another girl started the journey terrified of the water and the unknown, “I thought I was going to be eaten, but I got used to it.” She walked to the edge of the dock as the canoes were being loaded. “Can I jump in?”
eLogic Learning believes in enriching lives trough training and development in business and in the community.
