What is PAL?
The Police Athletic League (P.A.L.) is a registered non-profit 501c3 organization that is dedicated to providing affordable after school, summer and athletic opportunities to more than 500 Tampa Bay youth. P.A.L. has partnered with the Tampa Police Department to provide a safe, healthy environment for our community’s children and teens. P.A.L.’s partnership with the police department provides mentorship as well as safety and crime prevention programs. In addition, P.A.L. has partnered with many other community organizations to provide athletic, educational and recreational development.
While P.A.L. serves a large number of youth, typically from low to moderate income households headed by a single parent, all children are welcome to participate in our programs. P.A.L. answers the call for meeting the basic needs of families in crisis and has provided funding to assist with food, clothing, school supplies and housing. Medical needs have been met and utility bills have been paid in an effort to preserve the family unit when emergencies strike.
Throughout the school year, P.A.L. will serve over 100 elementary children in a highly structured, academically and recreationally balanced afterschool program. Students are transported from local schools to P.A.L. where they receive a nutritious snack and complete homework with the assistance of highly qualified staff members.
Physical activity is encouraged by engaging children in team sports such as volleyball, kickball and dodge ball. Individual tutoring is available for students who are struggling with a particular skill or subject. PA.L. provides extended hours during school holidays and breaks, allowing parents to continue working to support their family.
During the summer, P.A.L. provides a day camp for more than 150 youth ranging in age from 5-15 years of age.
Campers are divided into developmental age groups with specific activities and opportunities to meet their unique needs and interests. Field trips are scheduled to enhance each child’s knowledge of the world.
Due to difficult financial situations at home, many of our children would never be able to experience MOSI, Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center or other recreational and cultural opportunities throughout the Tampa Bay Area, if it wasn’t for the generosity and support of our community.
Sincerely,
